The author began the Great Patriotic War as the commander of a heavy artillery regiment, and then worked at the Headquarters of the artillery of the Red Army. In 1944, he led the artillery of the 2nd shock army and walked with it from the Gulf of Finland to Western Pomerania. In the summer of 1945, the author was appointed commander of the artillery of the 1st Red Banner Army of the 1st Far Eastern Front, which included in the defeat of the Japanese Kwantung Army.
