Published for the first time in Russian, the paraphrase-treatise "On the Immortality of the Soul, or the Death of Socrates" by the French philosopher, poet, playwright, author of prose works by Theophilus de Vieau (1590-1626), contains, in addition to Plato's "Socratic dialogue," "Fedon" 1828 verses, which present the life of the soul and flesh, mind and passions of man within earthly limits. In this large-scale work, the theophilic concept of bonespritism, perceived by Corneille, Descartes, Pascal, Racine, was determined... For the exiled poet-philosopher, the paraphrase treatise read at the court of Louis XIII was a philosophical declaration and a means of protection against persecution. For contemporaries, the paraphrase treatise "On the Immortality of the Soul, or the Death of Socrates" turned out to be a reference work for many decades of spiritual life precisely due to the universality of content achieved by combining the possibilities of philosophy and poetry.
