Analyzing many domestic and foreign historical studies, memoirs and archival documents, the author gives his version of the July tragedy of 1918 - the execution of Nikolai Romanov and his family. Day after day, and during the day preceding the regicide, hour after hour, Georgy Zaitsev scrupulously restores the circumstances of the stay of the former Russian tsar in Yekaterinburg. The long-standing history is now - and the 78 days that the Romanovs lived in our city; and the atrocity itself, committed in the basement of Ipatiev's house; and the regicides' attempt to cover the tracks of their crime - still in the public eye. And not only because this year is a sad anniversary - the 80th anniversary of the execution, but also for reasons more topical: today's discussion about the remains of the royal family and the place of their burial.
