The book is devoted to one of the key aspects of the life of the provincial peasantry of the Roman Empire, namely the question of the existence of a rural community. The study is based on materials from Thrace and Lower Moesia - the East Balkan provinces of Rome, where, as is commonly believed, in the first centuries of our era, communal traditions inherited from an earlier time were especially strong.
