In 1821, after a long and stubborn struggle of the Mexican people against the oppression of the Spanish colonialists, the independence of Mexico was proclaimed. Soon, breaking the last resistance to the monarchist clerical reaction, Mexican patriots achieved the approval of the republican system and the adoption of the first constitution in the history of Mexico. From now on, the Republic of the United States of Mexico became a free sovereign country.
