Davy's memoirs occupy a special position in the history of electrochemistry. They contain the first detailed experimental study of the phenomena of electrolysis and ion transport, the first diagram of the electrical theory of chemical affinity, and, finally, a description of the first and most brilliant technical application of electrochemistry - the production of elementary potassium and sodium.
