When a young doctor of theology, Sean Miles, who teaches the mystic of Judaism at the University of Toronto, begins to have surprisingly realistic dreams about the fate of the rabbi of medieval Toledo, who was burned at the stake of the Inquisition for "summoning demons," it does not occur to him that Providence reveals to him a story that happened to himself. He suddenly becomes the object of interest of the media tycoon Gino Balochi, who is dying from a fatal disease, to whom Satan's messenger is and offers to be initiated into the servants of Lucifer through the mysterious ritual of Akkadian priests in exchange for healing and long life.
