Sophie Kinsella (her real name is Madeleine Wickham) was born in London in 1970. She studied music in Oxford, at New College, but a year later she switched to political science, philosophy and economics, becoming two years later the best on the course. Sofia Kinsella worked as a teacher and financial journalist.
