The history of urban planning is considered from positions unusual for the Russian reader - carefully arranged illustrations with captions and text are highlighted in two separate parts, which can be considered both separately and together. More than 1000 illustrations show not only the objects of the history of urban planning traditional for Russia, but also those new data that have appeared recently. The development of settlements is shown against the background of general processes, including new achievements of general history, cultural studies and archeology in the field of the pre-industrial era, relationships and interdependencies in urban planning of the East and West, North and South are also traced.
