Based on the philosophical and anthropological approach, the author proposes his typology and periodization of Old Russian culture, which make it possible to analyze the historical and cultural process through the change of anthropological codes: bodily code in pagan times; the dominance of the "soul" in solving the human problem during the period of adoption and approval of Christianity; recognition of the knowing mind as the essence of human nature during the transition from the Middle Ages to the New Age.
