The book is the first attempt in post-Soviet historiography to study the history of the Central Asian emigration of the Soviet period. The focus is on the almost millionth mass of Tajiks, Uzbeks, Turkmens, Kyrgyz, Kazakhs, as well as Russians displaced by the revolution abroad - to Afghanistan, Western China, Iran, British India and Turkey in 1917-1934. The final chapter also touches on the main points of military emigration 1941-1945, the period of the Cold War, the war in Afghanistan in the 1980s, and brings the study to early 2000s.
