The book discusses the theoretical problems of the art and architecture of Islam. Issues of categorical understanding of the man-made "thing" are highlighted. Actual problems of theodicy, symbol and metaphor, image of Man and Temple, architectural prototype and copy are considered both from the point of view of modern approaches to art and architecture, and from the standpoint of normative and mystical consciousness of Muslims.
