The Linux Kernel book describes most of the data structures, as well as the algorithms and programming techniques that are used in the kernel. It sets out detailed information on the structure of the above OS. It covers memory management, including file buffering, direct memory access (DMA), and process offloading; Ext2 and Ext3, virtual file system, signals, interrupts and the most important interfaces of device drivers, creating processes and scheduling their execution, timekeeping, interprocessor communication (IPC), synchronization within the kernel, and program execution. This edition provides line-by-line commentary on all code fragments. Note that the material of the book is based on kernel version 2.6. The book is aimed at sysadmins and programmers.
