Sinop battle - the defeat of the Turkish squadron by the Russian Black Sea Fleet on November 18 (30), 1853, under the command of Admiral Nakhimov. The battle took place in the harbor of the city of Sinop (about 300 km from Sevastopol) on the Black Sea coast of Turkey. The Turkish squadron was defeated within a few hours. It went down in history as the last major battle of sailing fleets.
