In spite of the Convention and its Protocols banning the use of anti-personnel mines, as well as various restrictions on the development and production of anti-tank mines, mines continue to be widely used in the regions of the Near and Middle East and North Africa and it is impossible to effectively conduct combat operations in these regions without knowledge of their design.
