The phrase in the title was uttered by Rem Koolhaas in 1995 in his book S, M, L, XL and has since been quoted many times in the architectural press, usually not at all in the sense that the author meant. The very concept of context in architecture appeared when architecture began to be considered as a text, and this is associated (at least chronologically) with the emergence of architectural postmodernism.
