François Pierre Guillaume Guizot (1787-1874) is one of the key figures in French political life of the Restoration era (1814-1830) and the July Monarchy (1830-1848). He was a pioneer in various fields of scientific knowledge such as pedagogy, constitutional law, history and sociology. Like many of his contemporaries, Guizot had two careers at the same time: political and scientific, but the failure of the former overshadowed the brilliance of the latter.
