The story "The Boy from Leningrad" tells about the events that took place during the Great Patriotic War. Leningrad schoolboy Yulka Semenov, along with other children, must leave the besieged city: it was decided to evacuate all children from the front-line areas inland. During the bombing, the boy accidentally lags behind the school echelon.
