The joint work of Russian historian Sergei Zhuravlev and Finnish sociologist Jukka Gronov is the first systematic study of the history of fashion and fashion modeling in the Soviet Union. Based on extensive literature and a wide range of sources, some of which are first introduced into scientific circulation, the authors assess the formation and development of departmental clothing modeling systems in the USSR and their role in the Soviet fashion industry. The book touches upon little-studied and debatable problems related to the attitude to the fashion of power and society, with the role of fashion and clothing culture in the ideological, economic, socio-cultural, consumer, moral and ethical spheres of life, as well as in public representations of Soviet citizens from the revolution to "perestroika." It is natural that the authors focus on the post-war period of Soviet history.
