Around 480 BC e. Greek colonies united into a single state, founded on the shores of the Kerch Strait, then called the Cimmerian Bosporus. Thus began the thousand-year history of the Bosporus kingdom, part of which became complex, sometimes hostile relations with barbarian tribes, the struggle with other ancient cities for the right to rule in the Crimea, and even rivalry with the Roman Empire.
