A short essay is an exposition of the main conclusions of the three-volume monograph History of Izhevsk prepared for publication. The essay contains introductory articles to all 34 chapters of the last two volumes. Each chapter is devoted to a specific stage in the history of Izhevsk. All of them are given an impartial assessment in a historical perspective. For each stage, key personalities are identified and the administrative-territorial structures of the region are indicated - they are shown in the development entailing changes in the status of Izhevsk. New institutions and enterprises, types of products, social institutions, estates and professional groups are also named.
