Sheikh Rifa'a Rafi'at-Tahtawi was in Paris from 1826 to 1831 as part of a group of young Egyptians sent by the ruler of Egypt, Muhammad'Ali, to study in France. There he wrote most of a book published in Cairo in 1834 entitled "The Extraction of Pure Gold from a Brief Description of Paris." In the book, a kind of brief encyclopedia of Paris, at-Tahtawi describes the daily life of Parisians, their customs, customs, character, religious views, the social system of France, tells about the events of the July Revolution of 1830. Its goal is to acquaint Egyptians and "all Muslims" with the achievements of the French in the field of science, technology and public life and thereby promote the movement of their country along the path of renewal and progress.
