The book is based on the text of the Gifford lectures delivered by Werner Yeager at the University of St. Andrews (Scotland) in 1936. The author did not intend to write another essay on the history of early Greek philosophy, so in his book he concerns only one aspect of the teachings of the first philosophers of Greece - their views on religion and the divine.
