Book by V.A. Poghosyan is devoted to one of the topics not studied in Soviet and Russian historiography of the Great French Revolution - the history of the coup 18 fructidor of the 5th year (September 4, 1797). Based on the study of Russian archival documents (in particular, materials from the Archive of Foreign Policy of the Russian Empire), which are being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, as well as published sources, the author detailed the alignment of political forces that led the coup, the ties of the French royalists with the European reaction, the role of the army and generals.
