The book introduces the reader to the ideological and political trend in Austria-Hungary, poorly studied in Soviet literature - pan-Germanism, a reactionary racist ideology, which, with its spearhead, was directed against the Slavic peoples of the monarchy. This ideology later became one of the essential elements of the ideology of German fascism. The large documentary material shows the emergence, formation and development of Austrian pan-Germanism, as well as its political activity during the severe internal political crisis in the monarchy at the end of the 19th century. Sources attracted by the author, including from Soviet archives, indicate that the Pan-Germans already then called for the collapse of the monarchy and for the Anschluss.
