Ramayana (Skt. "The Journey of Rama") is an ancient Indian epic in Sanskrit, the author of which in the tradition of Hinduism is considered to be the Maharishi Valmiki. It is an important part of the scriptures of Hinduism of the Smriti category. The action of "Ramayana" takes place in the era of Treta-south, about 3 million years ago. It tells the story of the seventh avatar of Vishnu Rama, whose wife Sita is kidnapped by Ravan, the rakshasa king of Lanka. The epic covers the themes of human existence and the concept of dharma.
