Mati Unt was born on January 1, 1944 in the village of Linnamäe, Voores parish, Tartu County, in the family of an accountant [3]. From 1951 to 1958 he went to a rural school, in 1962 he graduated from school number 8 in Tartu. In 1967 he graduated from the Department of Estonian Philology, Faculty of History and Philology, Tartu State University [3]. From 1966 to 1971, Mati Unt worked as a head at the Vanemuine Theater in Tartu [3]. In 1975-1981 he worked as a lieutenant in the State Youth Theater of the ESSR in Tallinn. In 1981-1991 - Director of the Youth Theater, in 1992-2003 - Director of the Estonian Drama Theater in Tallinn.
