The novel tells about several episodes of the great Northern War, which is also known as the Twenty Years War and the victory in which made Russia the strongest of the powers. Neither the Swedish military leaders, nor King Charles XII himself could even imagine that the events that took place in the eastern lands of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, that is, in the lands of White Russia, would be the beginning of the collapse of the Swedish empire.
