The dictionary explains the origin of geographical names, as well as provides brief information about the settlements and natural objects of the Komi ASSR. The origin of geographical names is studied by a special science - toponymy (from Greek topos - place and name). Actual material for the dictionary was collected by the author during expeditions in 1966-85 from the entire territory of the Komi ASSR.
