Charles Perrault (1628-1703) came from a bourgeois-bureaucratic family. He was a lawyer, served as an architect in the so-called Royal Buildings department. Since 1653, various of his works began to appear in print. Perrault received official recognition as a famous poet in 1671, when he was elected a member of the French Academy. In 1697, Perrault publishes his most famous work, "Tales."
