The main characters of the tale - offended by their owners, a donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster go to the city of Bremen to become city musicians. Only they could not reach Bremen in one day and decided to spend the night in the forest. The donkey and the dog lay down to sleep under a large tree, the cat settled on the branches, and the rooster took off to the very top of the tree - there it seemed safest to him.
