2017 marks the 90th anniversary of the beginning of archaeological activities conducted by employees of the State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin on the territory of the Eastern Crimea and the Taman Peninsula. Exhibition "Panticapaeum and Fanagoria. The two capitals of the Bosporus kingdom" are timed to coincide with this anniversary date. In 1927, employees conducted the first research on the settlement of Fanagoria. In 1936, the Pushkin Museum founded the Fanagoria Archaeological Expedition (together with the State Historical Museum), and in 1945 - the Bosporus (Panticapaeum) expedition. The exhibition will tell about the history and culture of Panticapaeum and Fanagoria, the two most important centers of the Bosporus kingdom, the oldest state in the Russian Federation. In recent years, researchers at the Pushkin Museum have found confirmation that Panticapaeum was founded at the end of the 7th century BC. It became known that not only Greek colonists participated in the creation of Panticapaeum, but also representatives of other peoples of Asia Minor - Phrygians and Lydians.
