The monograph is devoted to the study of the frontier - as a space of intercultural interaction. The essential characteristics of the frontier are considered, scientific interpretations of the concept of "frontier" are presented. The problem of borderland in Russian military-political thinking has been updated, the specifics of the formation of the North Caucasian frontier are presented. Political extremism of new frontier zones is shown, sociocultural transformation of frontier zones is investigated.
