The Song of Hiawatha is considered Longfellow's most remarkable work. It appeared in 1855. The impression made by her was extraordinary: in six months she withstood thirty editions, gave rise to a lot of articles and imitations and was translated into many European languages. Everyone was struck, first of all, by the originality of its plot and the novelty of its brilliant, strictly sustained form.
