The book tells about one of the units of hunter-rangers (commandos), created by the Wehrmacht to fight partisans and abandoned in the area of ​ ​ Belarusian forests. In a long and merciless struggle, each member of the group had his own combat mission, as a result, the unfolded anti-partisan war became a fight between man and man. W. Hartfeld, who commanded a jaeger unit at the age of twenty-six, is one of the few survivors of these incredible battles, and his memories are excellent evidence of all the absurdity of the war.
