This edition is the first translation into Russian of the full text of the Diary of John Castle with the Index and all engraved illustrations, carried out with the kind assistance of the Russian National Library (St. Petersburg). The translator and editor sought to reproduce the content as accurately as possible and carefully convey both the author's perception of the events described and the spelling of names, geographical names, terms and other characteristic words, deliberately avoiding binding to modern ideas.
