The monograph is devoted to the study of conceptual metaphor in the Gospel of John. The work studied various approaches to determining the nature of the metaphor, outlined the specifics of the "religious" metaphor, for the first time the scientific method of identification and conceptual analysis of the metaphor by G. Stein was applied to biblical texts. As a result of analyzing the original text of the Gospel of John to identify the basic concepts governing the author's metaphorical usage, the prospects of applying modern linguistic methods in the analysis of sacred texts were proved. Theoretical and practical solutions to the problem of metaphor translation are separately indicated, the main transformations of concepts and their representations in modern translations of the gospel are shown.
