The problem of the origin of the Slavs is one of the most difficult in Russian historiography. The oldest theory, based on chronicles, brought the Slavs from the shores of the epic Danube. In the future, the Slavic ancestral home began to be sought in much more northern latitudes. At the same time, some scientists believe that the territory on which the Slavs formed into a special ethnic community was located in the Middle Dnieper and Popripyatye, while others consider it to be the interfluve of the Vistula and Oder.
