This book presents a new theory of ethnic cleansing based on their most terrible manifestations - genocides of the colonialism era, Armenian genocide, Nazi Holocaust, genocides in Cambodia, Yugoslavia and Rwanda, as well as on softer examples (Europe of the early modern time, modern India and Indonesia). Michael Mann is a professor of sociology at UCLA and the author of "The Origins of Social Power" and "Fascists." In 2006, M. Mann's book "The Dark Side of Democracy. Explaining Ethnic Cleansing" won the Harrington Moore Award, given by the American Sociological Association for the best book in comparative and historical sociology.
