Early and modern ideas about the mechanisms of formation of theoretical and real strength of metal materials are presented. Attention is paid to dislocation models of the formation of a high-strength state of alloys, their contribution to ensuring operational properties in the implementation of the most common industrial hardening processes is shown. A detailed quantitative analysis of the characteristics of strength and resistance to destruction during superposition of various strengthening mechanisms, including at elevated temperatures, was performed.
