Extraordinary celestial phenomena at all times amazed the imagination of superstitious people. The most extraordinary beliefs were associated with solar eclipses and comets. Shortly after the end of World War II, there was a new outbreak of superstition; this time, "aliens from space" appeared together with devils and demons. Now the reason was the flying objects that were observed over the territory of the United States and which were attributed to extraterrestrial origin. These mysterious objects, in which creatures from other planets allegedly flew, were called "flying saucers," or "saucers."
