In the first part of the book, the outstanding mathematician V.I. Arnold discusses in a polemical form the relationship between pure and applied mathematics. The second part of the book contains recordings of lecture courses given by the author in Dubna in 2005, at the Modern Mathematics summer school. It tells about several new areas of mathematical research based on numerical experiments.
