In his work "The Influence of Naval Power on the History of 1660-1783," published in 1889 in the USA, the author Alfred Thayer Mahan was the first to introduce the concepts of "domination of the sea" and "sea power" into scientific circulation, which subsequently became the main factor in the conduct of naval war. This fundamental military theoretical work brought Mahan world fame. He was ranked among the outstanding naval theorists of the late XIX - early XX centuries, and Mahan became the idol of the naval officers of the American fleet.
