Two-dimensional static problems of crack theory are considered. In particular, Griffiths' theory was presented, the stressed state in the vicinity of the crack apex in linear and non-linear settings was analyzed, forms of mathematical interpretation of real cracks and features introduced by various forms of representation into the description of the brittle fracture process were considered, the structure of the medium was taken into account both using the moment theory of elasticity and by considering discrete models.
