The book of A. A. Rahmani is the first in our historiography attempt at a monographic study of the main problems of the history of the Azerbaijani people at the end of the 16th and 17th centuries. A prominent specialist and connoisseur of Persian-speaking sources, the author attracted, if possible, a number of other materials (Armenian, Turkish, Western European, partly Russian), including little or no use by previous researchers. In general, he managed to give a detailed outline of the political, socio-economic and cultural history of Azerbaijan against a wide background of comparison with similar processes among other peoples of Transcaucasia and Iran.
