This edition is the most extensive collection of samples of the fable genre, one of the most popular in Russian poetry of the 18th-19th centuries. The publication is preceded by an article by N. L. Stepanov "Russian Fable." Works of Russian poets from A. D. Kantemir and M. V. Lomonosov, V. K. Trediakovsky and A. P. Sumarokov to P. A. Vyazemsky, A. D. Illichevsky and Kozma Prutkov. Along with famous fabulists, the now forgotten are presented.
