This edition contains a complete collection of works written by Ovid in Pontic exile: 5 books of Mournful Elegies, 4 books of Letters from Pontus, the poem Ibis and an excerpt from the unfinished poem The Science of Fishing. In Russian, until now there was only a prosaic translation of this code (Works of Ovid, all that have come down to us, vol. 3. Per. from lat. A. Klevanov. M, 1874); in addition, the Mournful Elegies were completely translated by A. A. Fet (Ovid's Sorrows. Per. A. Feta. M., 1893); the most widely selected "Sorrowful Elegies" and "Letters from Pontus" were presented in the edition: Ovid, Elegies and small poems. Per. from lat. M., "Art. lit.," 1973; for the present edition, the translations printed there have been re-edited. As an appendix, the publication includes Ovid's early, incompletely preserved poem "Face Prithiranya," which has not yet been translated into Russian by poems. Thus, this edition for the first time in Russian ends the poetic translation of all, without exception, the works of Ovid.
