The purpose of the dissertation is a comprehensive analysis of the role and place of Kumyk state formations in the Caucasian policy of the Russian state, based on a deep analysis and widespread use of sources of Eastern, European and Russian origin, historical and ethnographic materials introduced into scientific circulation, reconstruction of an integral picture of them as an object in the struggle of the great powers in the second half of the XVI - first half of the XVIII century.
