A. I. Kuprin entered the history of Russian literature as the author of short stories and novels, as well as a major master of the story. He belonged to a galaxy of critical realism writers. The influence of Chekhov, Gorky and especially L.N. Tolstoy affected Kuprin's work. The artist is truthful and life-specific, writing only about what he himself saw, experienced and felt, Kuprin addressed his work to a wide audience; in the center of his works is usually an "average" Russian intellectual-worker, a warm-hearted, conscientious person, vulnerable to life contradictions; an important place in the works of Kuprin is occupied by colorful images of ordinary people from the people. The writer is inclined to portray the psychology of "group," "professional," established, often found. Many of his works are staged and filmed; they have been translated into a number of foreign languages.
