The collection includes 183 fables of the classic of world literature L.N. Tolstoy; of which 114 were written on Aesop's plots, 34 on the plots of Indian fairy tales and fables, 13 are reworkings of Lafontaine's fables, 8 are written on plots from various sources and 14 were composed by the writer himself. Extensive commentary is given at the end of the edition. The book is decorated with more than three hundred black-and-white and color illustrations made by contemporary artist Ksenia Alekseeva.
